An Etiquette-ful Mindset
Mantra for Success

Mindset Mantras

Getting through a day isn’t always easy, but a mindset mantra might help. Creating one based in the belief that you live in a world that can be affected by you in ways that add value to others, as well as yourself, is vital.

Your Mindset Mantra

A mantra is a repeated phrase or sentence that sets an intention for a goal to achieve or challenge to overcome. It can be as simple or as complicated as you want, as long as it resonates with you.

The two most compelling words to use in your mindset mantra are “I am”. These words set an immediate intention in your brain as you say them. Not only do they form a declarative sentence on their own, but when used to begin a sentence, your brain becomes fired up to find out what comes next.

Try it by repeating these mantras a few times each.

  • “I am . . . cool, calm, and collected.”
  • “I am . . . focused and intentional in my work.”
  • “I am . . . strong.”
  • “I am . . . a brilliant, successful _______.”

When repeating the above mantras, did you feel the anticipation after saying, “I am”? Your brain couldn’t wait to find out what you are. Even if it couldn’t quite believe it fully, the intention was there.

The interesting thing about having a mantra is that the more your repeat it, the more you believe it.

Etiquette-ful Mantras

Theodore Roosevelt once said, “The most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people.”  This is why the instruction to get along with others begins at a very young age. It is at the core of every successful company and community.

When you consider a mantra that sets an etiquette-ful intention, it is still centered on “I am” but also includes what you might do for others.

  • “I am . . . contributing positivity in the world.”
  • “I am . . . respectful and kind to everyone I encounter.”
  • “I am . . . grateful for every person in my life.”
  • “I am . . . open-minded and accepting of individualities.”

Change Your Mind, Change Your Life

Success means different things to different people. But success is much sweeter when it is shared with other people who have loved, helped, and supported you along your way.

I began my journey as an etiquette educator a while after my husband was awarded one of his greatest recognitions, the Nobel Prize. I wanted to know the formula and methods for comfortably navigating the events and galas that go along with that level of achievement. Quite a feat for someone who considered herself a wallflower at social events.

What I learned was fascinating and has kept me enthralled with all-things etiquette ever since. The foundation of etiquette is simply getting along with other people.  Same as the formula for success!

Sure, it helps to know what fork to use and where to place your spoon after stirring coffee or tea. But if you know how to make conversation and introduce people, know how to put others at ease during negotiation or debate, and know how to make someone feel respected, you’re a shoo-in for being successful at whatever you choose.

Your level of success – and however you define it – comes down to the choices you make each day. Using mindset mantras to keep you on track for the goals you wish to reach and the lifestyle you wish to live will help you make the best choices to achieve what you want.
